1988 saw the closedown of pirate radio stations across the country, with a new era being heralded in with the introduction of legal local services intended to do away with the uncertainty surrounding local services.

The legislation also saw the introduction of a new national service, Century Radio.

The optimism and success of the early years, in many cases, was short-lived, and ironically both legal services which hit Limerick in 1998 & 1999 - the local Radio Limerick One and the national Century Radio, are now but a distant memory, having been replaced by Live95FM and Today FM in the intervening years.
